I started playing basketball my junior year of high school- I go to a school where everyone gets on the varsity team. I've never been really good at sports but when I play I always play hard. My first year I wasn't put in much, maybe two minutes max if at all, but this year I've played for nearly full quarters- still not that much.
Today however was my last game of my senior season. It was bittersweet, I was ready for the season to be over but I knew I'd miss it. I set out today to make a basket, something I've never done before. I tried but didn't think it was going to happen. Our team suffered it's most devastating loss all season. 48-2, with our two points being scored within the last 4 minutes of the game. Those 2 points ushered roaring cheers from the entire crowd (who all but 4 were supposedly rooting against our team). Those 2 points were foul shots. Shot by me. I nearly cried. I did jump in the air. My entire team fist bumped me and gave me high fives. I went out of the game with about a minute to go and coach said I did a great job. When I left the locker room, one of the last to leave, I walked past the crowd and a guy cheered out, "You did great, you never quit!" After which the whole crowd cheered for me and grabbed my hand like a rock star.
That's the way to end a season.
